Ascendant opposite Descendant
The Ascendant is how one presents oneself and the Descendant is what one seeks in the other; they naturally form the axis of the self and the bond. In opposition, at 180 degrees, which is the proper relationship of this axis, both poles face each other: the self on one side and the other's inner partner on the other. It is the pole of encounter par excellence, where what one is calls out to what the other projects. The central meaning is the complementarity between identity and bond.

The image of one person falls upon the Descendant of the other, upon what that other seeks in a companion. The effect is one of axial fit: one seems to embody exactly what the other was looking for, with an attraction that feels natural and almost destined toward encounter. What this gives is pure complement, the sense that each brings what the other lacks. What creates tension is projection, the risk of asking the other to be only that ideal partner. The bond asks that each see the real person behind the sought-after figure. The work is allowing the other to be who they are. When they balance complement and reality, the bond strengthens. The challenge is not to love the projection instead of the person.
