Semisquare

The semisquare separates two planets by 45 degrees, exactly half a square. It is a minor aspect of tension, which does not mean it is irrelevant: it marks a subtle but persistent point of friction between two planetary principles. Unlike the square, whose friction is direct and visible, the semisquare operates more beneath the surface, like a low-grade irritation that cannot always be pinpointed but surfaces repeatedly in concrete situations. In synastry, it marks areas where two people experience small recurring frictions of the kind that create discomfort without rising to open conflict. The key is to make it visible: once named, it loses much of its disruptive power. With attention, it develops a particular sensitivity to the edges and fine details of the relationship.
